Posted on December 31, 2019April 13, 2023 by Nadine Shambrook

End of 2019 yearly favourites, let’s do this! A list of all the usual: TV, music, books, and more. Films will come later. See 2018’s favourite things here.

Don’t forget to let me know your favourites too.

TV

For the first time, I have kept a list of TV I watched this year to look back on which I’ve uploaded so I can look back at it. I watched quite a bit of new TV this year, some had previous seasons I needed to catch up on like Catastrophe and Fleabag. Here are some of my favourite TV shows I watched during 2019:

  • Catastrophe series 1-4
  • Derry Girls series 1 and 2
  • Fleabag series 1 and 2
  • Fresh Off The Boat season 1-4
  • Friends From College season 2
  • Modern Love season 1
  • Sex Education series 1
  • The Boys season 1
  • The Politician season 1
  • Unbelievable (limited series)

Other highlights include: This Time with Alan Partridge (BBC), The End of the F***ing World series 2 (Channel 4), and Taskmaster series 1 – 9 which I binged in less than a month. And I’m still watching Succession.

Music

My favourite albums of the year are:

  • thank u, next – Ariana Grande
  • Lover – Taylor Swift
  • Waitress – Original Broadway Cast Recording
  • No. 6 Collaborations Project
  • Everything Changes EP – Social House
  • Sing to Me Instead – Ben Platt

My favourite songs that I discovered this year:

  • Cold War – Cautious Clay (featured in the Booksmart soundtrack)
  • Look at Her Now – Selena Gomez (she is BACK)
  • Always Be My Baby – Mariah Carey (rediscovered due to Always Be My Maybe on Netflix)
  • RAIN – Ben Platt
  • Simmer (feat. Burna Boy) – Mahalia
  • Motivation – Normani
  • Thinkin Bout You – Ciara
  • Haunt You – Social House
  • So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings by Caroline Polachek

Here’s my most played songs too.

Books

I didn’t read many books this year, but I have two I absolutely adored: Circe by Madeline Miller and Normal People by Sally Rooney. Very different novels in terms of themes and how it is written, although I loved them equally.

Other 2019 things

Eco things

I’ve made a lot of big changes this year in order to live a more eco-conscious life. I’ve had a whole year of using a mooncup and period knickers, and I have only used organic sanitary pads. My body feels so much better for it. I also created another instagram account, to share all my eco switches too.

Musicals

I saw 3 shows this year: Waitress in London during April), SIX in November, and Dear Evan Hansen in London in December. Waitress has stayed with me the longest, but that could be because I had already overplayed the DEH OST for the last couple of years. I hadn’t heard any of the songs from Waitress, so I experienced them for the first time live. I enjoyed all three shows though.
