Taylor Swift songs ranked

I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift since 2009-ish. Speak Now was the first Swift album I downloaded in full on my purple iPod Nano first gen. Red was the first Taylor Swift album I had for my car after I finally passed my driving test a few weeks before my 18th birthday. Then the other albums followed while I was at university, was in my second job, bought my first house, and two while I lived through a global pandemic.

I’ve never seen Taylor live or been to a Taylor Swift themed club (the latter will hopefully change soon!). Never bought merch or attended live streams. Not because I don’t want to, I know I would adore all of it, but because just listening to her music is enough.

I have never been embarrassed to like her, she is after-all one of the greatest songwriters and performers today (no source needed, there are enough of them). I will shout it from the top of a building if needed to. Her songs make me happy, and sad, and lonely, and grateful, and feel loved, and excited, and are a huge part of me. However the last year or so, living through a global pandemic, I realise just how good it is to be a fan of something. If my TikTok FYP is anything to go by, I’m a huge Swiftie. I may not have been to a concert, or bought merch, but I love her.

Anyway, I thought my blog was a great place to do some rankings of my favourite songs. When Fearless (Taylor’s Version) was released in spring 2021, I was surprised to find that some of my favourite songs pre-TV had changed. Some of the songs From The Vault, an era of Swift that I wasn’t present for, became forever favourites and other classics I finally appreciated, having never liked them before.

My rankings are my personal favourites in order, plus pre-Taylor’s Version and post-Taylor’s Version to see how they change with each re-release. My favourite songs from Fearless was really affected by Taylor’s Version and the songs From the Vault, so it will be interesting to see if the other re-releases are similar.

This song sorter from a Tumblr users jesseepinkman is, in my opinion, one of the greatest tools to ever exist on the internet. Without it, organising my favourite Taylor Swift songs would have taken me months.
